Meet two young designers from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde who participated in Lifestyle’s “Face-Off: A Cut Above the Rest,” an event organized to showcase the skills and creativity of design students from four fashion schools.
Designer: Veronika Sài
Death is the inspiration behind Sài’s creation. “For this specific garment, my inspiration came from experiencing the death of my rabbit,” she said.
She presented the concept of crystallization by incorporating geometric shapes onto organic figures like
rabbits.
Fabric with digitally-printed watercolor crystals painted by Valerie Chua accentuated the image of crystallization.
Designer: Soojin Yang
Inspired by concrete walls and the graffiti on them, Yang experimented with leather by giving it a cement-like texture.
Note the roughness is visible in the painting over the leather fabric.
Sheer fabric was also used to emphasize cement’s dry quality.
“I don’t just consider trend, silhouette and color in my design. I also like visualizing some specific emotions or feelings,” she said.
