The launch, in partnership with SM Aura Premier, will gather talented bakers, foodies and chefs from leading hotels and restaurants as they whip up decadent spread of cakes, pies, chocolate and frozen delights—all featured in the desserts guide.

“Best Desserts 3,” written by Vangie Baga-Reyes, features about 90-plus desserts from Metro Manila, including one from Cebu.

The dessert guide, edited by Alya Honasan, with layout by Riki Velarde, photographs by Jilson Seckler Tiu and foreword by Inquirer Lifestyle editor Thelma Sioson San Juan, boasts a merry mix of textures and flavors ingeniously prepared by men and women in the pastry world—from strong coffee-flavored sponge cake and pillowy meringue to velvety soft, fluffy chiffon and creamy torte.

Savory chapters

The book is divided into nine chapters: Classics with a Delicious Twist (Honey Layer Cake, Mango Kasuy Sans Rival, Salted Egg Yema Cake, Black Gold Egg Custard Buns); Chocoholic’s Dream (Decadent Twix Cake, Sluttier Slutty Brownie, Brownie Ganache Torte, Chocolate Babka); Local Flair (Ube Ensaymada, Dayap Taisan, Calamansi Marmalade Cheesecake, Coconut Pie); Caramel Craving (Coffee Caramel Indulgence, Sylvia Caramel Cake); Bakeshop Classics (Almond Sans Rival) Banana Cream Pie, Luxury Cathedral Windows, Mocha Crunch); Fruit-Laden (Peach Tart, Strawberry Shortcake, Mango Mousse, Hummingbird Cake); Nuts All Over (Baklava de Kasuy, Almond Crunch, Apple Walnut Cake); Nibblers (Malicious Cookies, Date Walnut Bars, Cookie Petites); and Cool Confections (Mississippi Mud Pie, The Peanut, Gelato Lab, Ice Cream Pops).

The book launch-cum-dessert festival will kick off with welcome remarks from Inquirer president and CEO Sandy Prieto-Romualdez, followed by an audio-visual presentation of all sweets featured in the book. Certificates will be presented to the best dessert makers.

The launch will have an entrance fee of P50—the proceeds will go to Gota de Leche Foundation, a feeding program for indigent children. Those who will buy the “Best Desserts 3” book, priced at P395 with special discount price on the day of the book launch, will be entitled to a free entrance.

Special raffle prices will be given away during the event.

Inquirer Lifestyle “Best Desserts 3” will be available at all National Book Stores, PowerBooks, Fully Booked and selected 7-Eleven convenience stores.
