The Dominican Province of the Philippines (DPP) will launch the Dominican Missal and Lectionary on Dec. 8, 5 p.m., at the Institute of Preaching-Philippine Dominican Center of Institutional Studies (IP-PDCIS) Bldg., Sto. Domingo Church, Quezon City.
The book is being launched in connection with the feast of the Immaculate Conception as well as the 40th anniversary of the DPP.
“It is my special joy to present to you this edition of the Dominican Missal and Lectionary for the use of the members of the Order of Preachers in the Philippines,” said Fr. Quirico T. Pedregosa Jr., OP, prior provincial of DPP. “Indeed, our communion with God is the main pillar of our Dominican vocation. It underlines the centrality in our liturgical life of the Eucharist, which for the Dominicans is the ‘bond of brotherly love and source of apostolic vigor.’”
Fr. Roland Mactal, OP, chair of the DPP Commission on Liturgy and Prayer, said the “Dominican Missal and Lectionary includes the latest (2010 English translation) Order of Mass taken from the Third Edition of the Roman Missal and the recently canonized saints and beatified members of the Dominican Family.”
“This liturgical book prepared by the Commission on Liturgy and Prayer of the Dominican Province of the Philippines is a laudable work toward the adaptation of the new English translation of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal,” said Fr. Genaro Diwa, executive secretary of the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Liturgy. “This publication will contribute greatly to the developments of liturgical books, especially as it provides the members of the Dominican Order a complete Dominican Sanctoral and Lectionary.”
“I am edified to know that the Order of Preachers in the Philippines is publishing its own Dominican Missal and Lectionary,” said Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas. “This undertaking is most pleasing to the Lord and certainly very useful for the steady promotion of piety through the Sacraments, particularly of the Eucharist.”
Proceeds of the book will go to the Association for the Educational Assistance of Poor Seminarians Inc.
The DPP was established on Dec. 8, 1971. The Filipino Dominicans continue to fortify their “original charism of preaching and evangelization,” Pedregosa said during his address to the Province last year.
In the same address, Pedregosa cited initiatives to raise vocations and improve theological instructions, such as the construction of the Institute of Preaching-Philippine Dominican Center of Institutional Studies (IP-PDCIS) Bldg. inside the Sto. Domingo Convent compound in Quezon City.
The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated last Nov. 5. The PDCIS also manages in the building the rich collection of books and documents from the old convent library.
Established in 2005, the Institute of Preaching serves as the graduate school for training in philosophy, theology and homiletics. The institute has been given the authority to confer the degree of Master of Arts for the clergy, religious and laymen.
Earlier, Pedregosa expressed high hopes for the institute.
“Finally,” he said, “the Province has an institution entirely devoted to the Dominican charism of preaching.”
The Provincial Media Board is also housed in the building. It will launch the official website of the Province on Dec. 8.
