A seminar-workshop designed to help Filipino teachers better understand the relevance of the historical background of Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo” will be conducted on April 26 to 28 at Telengtan Hall, University of Asia and the Pacific, on Pearl Drive, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

In “Teaching Rizal’s ‘Noli Me Tangere’ and ‘El Filibusterismo’ for Wisdom and Citizenship,” the focus of this year’s conference will be on Rizal’s life during the writing of his novels.

The speakers seek to enhance high school teachers’ knowledge and competence as well as Rizal college professors on updated research on the Spanish colonial period.

Workshops will highlight chosen chapters in the primary texts that reflect our national hero’s beliefs of what a true Filipino should be.

The speakers are Clement C. Camposano, Marya Svetlana T. Camacho, Paul A. Dumol, Arnel E. Joven of the history department and professor Jorge Mojarro of Instituto Cervantes de Manila.

There will be in-depth discussions on: 1) Rizal’s Life as a Journey Towards a Sense of Nation, 2) Rizal’s Life During the Writing of Noli Me Tangere, 3) Reactions to Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere, 4) El Filibusterismo and Beyond and 5) Rizal and the European Romantic Literature. Palanca laureate Joachim Emilio Antonio will also present his award-winning play “The Floret Road,” on Rizal and his women.

The fee is P3,500 covering kits, meals and certificates for the three-day activity.
