When all else fails, trust technology to come to the rescue.
Solta Medical Inc. recently launched the second generation Liposonix system, a noninvasive fat reduction system, approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, and Food and Drug Administration Philippines.
It uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (Hifu) to permanently get rid of targeted fat around the waistline, love handles and abdomen.
“A single treatment for one hour results in a decrease in one inch or one pant size,” said Dr. Clarissa Cellona, senior consultant of SkinCell Advanced Aesthetic Clinic.
Since the procedure is non-invasive, there are no post-
recovery downtimes or surgical risks. Patients can resume their regular activities after the procedure.
“Liposonix is not a weight-loss treatment or a treatment in exchange for plastic surgery. It is the perfect choice for active patients who are already at their healthy weight, but still want to get rid of that last pocket of fat which they can’t achieve through diet and exercise,” Cellona said.
Its brand ambassador, singer/actress Rachel Alejandro, is the perfect candidate for Liposonix—she eats healthy and exercises regularly.
Problem is, Alejandro said, unlike her sibling, Barni, she wasn’t blessed with a slim waistline.
Single session
It took just a single session with Liposonix to trim her waist.
“I was hesitant at first to try the treatment because I have a very low threshold for pain,” Alejandro said. “I was surprised the entire procedure was painless. All I felt was a warm sensation in the area where the treatment was performed.”
Highly versatile
Other slimming devices are limited in their ability to treat certain areas of fat, requiring several hours or sessions just to adequately address problem areas.
Liposonix system, with its Custom Contouring, is highly versatile. It allows control over precisely how and where energy is delivered, so it truly is about becoming one size smaller in a single treatment.

Since it takes time to break down fat and destroy fat cells, Cellona said, results are seen within eight to 12 weeks after the treatment, or about the same time the body needs to naturally metabolize and remove the destroyed fat.
“Fat cells do not shrink,” she said. “If they shrink, they can come back. With Liposonix, fat cells are permanently destroyed so that they do not come back. There are no blisters, no scars. It has an excellent safety profile.”
Hifu, the high-intensity ultrasound technology of Liposonix, can be used to penetrate through the skin layers and into the targeted fat tissue without harming the skin or surrounding tissues.
This differs from other non-invasive, fat-reduction technologies, such as radiofrequency and lasers, where energy is highly absorbed or scattered near the skin surface, limiting penetration into the subcutaneous fat tissue and delivering only temporary results.
The launch was attended by the country’s top aesthetic clinics, including Belo Medical Group, Facial Care Centre and House of Obagi.
