The past few months, the #metoo movement has swept the United States, from the streets to the Golden Globes and the Oscars, bringing under scrunity allegations of sexual harassment.

In contrast, it’s all quiet on the local front. Are Filipinos just too timid to speak up?
People talk, in fact, but just in hushed voices. For example, members of a culture community talk about an influential person who allegedly has a casting couch. The person reportedly invites the younger talents to the lair. Those who play the game are given plum roles and are assured of their rise to the top.


Those who don’t become “bench warmers.”

It is said that the powers-that-be just look the other way, since that person of interest is deemed irreplaceable.
