A year after he was named SM Youth ambassador, Fil-Swede Macauly Lofgren again graces the pages of To be You.
Aside from modeling, Lofgren, 20, actively engages in university activities to fulfill his other role as student leader.
The civil engineering major from De La Salle University Dasmariñas is set on finishing his degree, and plans to take up his master’s afterwards.
In this chat, he gives To be You a glimpse into his student life, hobbies and interests.
What song is your ultimate jam?
“Definitely Hopeless,” by Khalid. Actually, his entire album is my jam, my most-played songs on Spotify.
What three words best describe you?
Passion, kindness, ambition.
If you could eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Salmon sashimi—no competition!
Hidden talent
Do you have any hidden talent?
Probably gardening? I know how to plant!
Your Instagram bio says, “P.S. I only rap occasionally.” Who’s your favorite rapper?
Actually it says, “P.S. I only rap Caucasionally.” And my favorite rapper is Macklemore.
Modeling is said to be the most insecure profession. What do you love about yourself?
I would say it’s my heart. I know it’s cheesy, but my mom raised me to have a good heart. Physically, I would say my eyes. They get constant compliments.
What do you do in your free time?
I like to cook, workout, hang out with friends or kick back and watch Netflix. Recently, I’ve been very active in my university council, as well as personally renovating a house I’m moving into.
What’s a funny story you heard recently?
It’s not really a story I heard. I recently got my dog back. She’s a little toy poodle that’s a bundle of energy. At home I have this glass door and she was so excited that she was running all over the place and ran right into the glass door! She kept running around anyway. Man, she’s cute!
Name three of the happiest moments in your life you’d like to recall.
My experience at Marine Camp on Danjugan Island, my high school graduation and winning SM Youth Go-See, of course.
Other goals
After your successful debut at SM Youth, what other goals do you want to achieve?
I’ve been so focused on life outside school these past few years, and I’m sort of changing that mind-set. Right now, my goal is to finish my degree in civil engineering, as well as accomplish projects for my university student council. After that, I want to take up my master’s. But that’s a conversation for another time.
What are you doing to achieve these goals?
I had to change a bit of my lifestyle. I’m on campus a lot now and I’m starting to prioritize my studies.
How do you balance school and modeling?
It’s not easy, but SM Youth has always been understanding. It always reminds me that school should come first. When you’re part of a company that’s so understanding, it lifts a lot of weight off your shoulders.
Do you play any sports?
I do. I’m a -1 handicap polo player. I haven’t been able to play much these past few years, but it’s my Kryponite. I also play golf, badminton, tennis and volleyball.
What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way?
That’s a tough one. I’d probably say, read books. I know times have changed and people have moved on to reading from a Kindle or iPad, but there’s just something I enjoy about the feeling of a book, plus that new book smell.
Who’s your celebrity crush?
Kaila Estrada!
Name an item of clothing that will always be in fashion.
I’d say button-down polo shirts. You can dress them up or down, they’re just timeless and flexible. It’s impossible for them to go out of style. Plus, they basically add instant pogi points, wouldn’t you agree?
