Up and coming Filipino designerCJ Martin clinched a spot in the grand finals of the Redress Design Award, the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition in Hong Kong last September 6.
Martin showcased his creations inspired by receding glaciers in the environmental documentary “Chasing Ice” using secondhand polyester curtains and denim jeans.
He is among the 11 finalists from across the world who all feature striking collections inspired by the current global trend in waste reduction.
The competition was aimed at educating emerging fashion designers about sustainable design theories. It calls for showcasing techniques in reducing fashion’s negative environmental impact as well as promoting zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction to cut waste.
The competition lasted over five months with 55 individuals from different countries vying for the top prize. /ee
