Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions,” artist Pablo Picasso once remarked. Colors can have a powerful impact on our moods and even behavior.
A kaleidoscope of colors greeted all the guests at the recent launch of Swatch Fall 2018 Think Fun Collection. Swatch grand dame Virgie Ramos and her team transformed the Swatch Building into a fun house full of colors.
Think Fun was a private afternoon party hosted by Mia Borromeo and Susan Joven. Indeed, color is a powerful communication tool and can be used to signal action and influence mood, so my actions at the event were to shop and shop, all the while maintaining a good mood.
Many of the guests seemed to share my mood, thanks to the colorful sofa and chairs, striped tablecloths and hanging installations in rainbow palettes. The color patterns amazed the guests, who all came fashionably colorful, as well.
The colorful explosion in theme, fashion and design most definitely made everyone “Think Fun!” The food spread was all in color, as well—colored breads, ham and delectable cheese, plus fruity gelato. Everyone enjoyed the three-meter-long rainbow cake.
The cutest guest was little Scarlet Snow Belo, Hayden Kho and Vicki Belo-Kho’s bright and bubbly 3-year-old daughter. She enjoyed running about the place while choosing her own Swatch Flik Flak watch.
Another special guest was National Book Store grand dame Socorro “Nanay Coring” Ramos, who just turned 95!
Tita Virgie has yet again created an unforgettable Swatch event, with the help of set designer Gino Gonzales’ brilliant design concept. Gino has been designing multiple events for Swatch and his intense creativity can also be seen at the ongoing Slim’s Fashion & Arts School exhibit at SM Megamall.
Slim’s exhibit at Megamall
Prior to the exhibit, Slim’s supporter Jo Ann Bitagcol photographed the whimsical clothes at the Swatch building. I was happy to drop by and get first dibs at the students’ creations for possible options for the Bench Terno Con Ball this November. SM senior VP for marketing and communications Millie Dizon came to chat with Slim’s siblings Sandy and Mark Higgins.
The annual Slim’s students’ exhibit has “Laro” as this year’s theme. This colorful exhibition celebrates the fun side of design, and is a collaboration between Slim’s, Swatch and SM Malls. “Laro” is open to the public until Oct. 3 at Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall.
Students found inspiration in classic toys, fairy tales and games, looking back to the fun of their childhood days. The clothes are a riot of colors and witty designs, complemented by giant watch heads from Swatch, representing the Swiss brand’s new “Think Fun” collection, which pushes the boundaries of fantasy and play. The collection features watches that explode with colorful graphics and patterns, and magical sparkling touches.
While the students’ design concepts are lighthearted, their approach to execution was clearly taken seriously. Every garment was designed, cut and sewn by the students with many of the pieces showing off their technical skills.
