The cutest cluster called “Duffy and Friends” greets guests on Main Street in Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL), but do you know their story?
In celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary, Super presents the backstory on how these adorable characters (with “Mickey marks” on their paws and faces) became the fluffiest of friends.
Duffy is a soft honey-brown teddy that Minnie Mouse handmade for Mickey to serve as his buddy on his long journey across the sea.
Minnie also made another bear to pair with Duffy and called her ShellieMay, so named after a seashell. ShellieMay wears a tan bow on her head and a heart-shaped seashell pendant around her neck.
Mickey and Duffy then voyaged through ports and cities, making friends along the way.
On a stroll with Mickey, Duffy dropped the gelato he was eating! Gelatoni, a tuxedo cat with greenish-gray fur, saw this and made a painting using his long white-tip tail and the melted gelato on the ground as “paint.” Gelatoni always wear his teal painter’s beret that complements his eyes.
Moving on to an American waterfront, Duffy saw the gracious lavender bunny StellaLou practicing ballet in a blue tutu and matching flower headband. It is her dream to perform on Broadway, she said, but she kept on stumbling. Duffy encouraged her to keep on dreaming and dancing in her pink ballet shoes.
Cookie, the charming puppy with golden fur, green eyes and floppy ears, just joined Duffy’s squad. A talented cook in a white chef’s hat with a pink bow, Cookie is an HKDL exclusive character.
Clumsy Duffy was having cotton candy when he bumped into Cookie, who was carrying a tall stack of hot waffles. Everything got tossed in the air, but Cookie caught them and created the yummiest cotton-candy waffle.
Cookie will be celebrating her first Christmas in HKDL, which will be transformed into a “winter wonderland” from Nov. 15-Jan. 1, 2019. Make sure to drop by Main Street to party with Duffy, ShellieMay, Gelatoni, StellaLou and Cookie, who will look extra wonderful in their winter outfits. –Irene Perez
