The instant Jose Gabriel “Jogee” Cruz walked in, everyone felt his incredible energy. The boyish-looking Jogee Cruz, brilliant Purefoods Hormel’s assistant VP and marketing director, was there to launch “My Body Smarts,” an advocacy of Purefoods Fun Nuggets with the Department of Education promoting the need for “living an active, vibrant and healthy lifestyle.”
“When we speak of intelligence, it’s always about that kid who solves the math problems or a child who knows the capital cities of all the countries. Hardly have we realized that there are other ways of being smart. One of them is being body smart,” Jogee C. said, to the wild applause of all the invitees, palanggas.
No less than Education Undersecretary Yolanda Quijano unveiled the advocacy campaign. “I want to thank Purefoods Fun Nuggets for spearheading such an advocacy for the students, adults and children,” she said.
“What we want children and adults to know is that they are all smart,” said CJ Perea, Purefoods Fun Nuggets product manager. “They just have to identify areas where they excel—living a healthy lifestyle and eating nutritious foods.”
What kept the party on a roll was the yum-yummy Australian Pies by Tina Raines of Tina’s Pie Outlet, wrapped in a crimson canister. The homemade, freshly baked, and not to mention authentic, Australian Pies definitely added flavor to the launch.
The advocacy aims to reach close to 20,000 awesome students from Grades 1 and 2 of selected schools in the National Capital Region. Engaging activity books will be given to the students so as to explain to them the significance of knowing and developing their own body smarts.
Yes, it’s about time that we accept the out-of-the-box definition of being smart and include those who are health-smart. With Purefood Fun Nuggets, all body smart believers will be boosted. Di bala, palanggas?
Happy birthday, Louie Y!
It has always been the “good life” for my pal, Louie Ysmael. For getting the nightlife on a roll for the upscale crowd of Cosmo-Manille, dahlings, he has come to be known as the King of the Nightlife.
That’s why his birthday is always a big event. Louie Y has been celebrating his birthday like the rest of us mortals, but with one exception: He still looks the same, ageless (with extra pounds, of course), sporting a bright attitude that will last him a lifetime.
Nuvo was once again a flurry of faces, each one raring to wish Louie “all the best” on his big day. Over 300 invitees filled Nuvo’s mezzanine floor, spilling to the main dining room and even to the cool open-air patio in front of Greenbelt 2, dahlings. Also helping host the birthday bash were the next generation of nightlife promoters, such as Erik Cua and Stephen Ku.
Wine and heavy booze flowed endlessly as resident DJs John Monreal and Arnel Genterone took their music-playing up a notch higher that sent the adrenaline of the guests sky-high. At the strike of midnight, Boyet Sison led a toast for Louie Y.
Cheers to you Louie! May the good life last forever.
Congressional Spouses’ painting exhibit
The Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc. (CSFI), led by its dynamic president Joy Belmonte, held another très successful painting exhibit, “Sining Sa Kongreso: An Exhibition of Modern Masters and Contemporary Artists,” at the Batasan Complex.
CSFI’s hardworking board members, Paula Bondoc and Mons Romulo, organized the exhibit with art dealers Bong Verzosa, Jerome Jimenez and Sari Ortega.
Works on exhibit included those by Malang and National Artists Arturo Luz and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, dahlings.
Proceeds of the successful art show will go to the scholarship program of the foundation.
Silent film fest at the Shang
Shangri-La Plaza’s Shang Cineplex hosted the 5th International Silent Film Festival. The edition marked the first time the Philippines and Greece were participating in the festival.
Welcoming the guests were Greek Ambassador Polyxeni Stefanidou, Japan Foundation Manila’s Shuji Takatori, Teddy Co of the Society of Filipino Archivists (Sofia), Italian cultural attaché Emanuela Adesini, Instituto Cervantes’ deputy director for cultural affairs José Maria Fons Guardiola and the Goethe-Institut’s Richard Kunzel.
The festival’s opening movie was “Brides of Sulu,” the 1934 Filipino silent movie. To accompany the movie, the Panday Pandikal Cultural Troupe performed exotic musical scores by solo artist Armor Rapista. Wow!
Naturellement, other acclaimed musical groups and artists provided awesome live musical accompaniments to the rest of the featured films: Stephan von Bothmer and the Far Eastern University Chorale, contemporary group Bandang Malaya, hard-rock band Razorback and jazz fusion supergroup HDC Trio, with individual instrument by Heliodoro “Dingdong” Fiel.
