For one man in Miami, Florida, the best way to ask his girlfriend’s hand in marriage was by letting her choose her own engagement ring.
Model and former athlete Dennis Brown II proposed to his girlfriend Atara Dallas at the Penthouse at Riverside Wharf on Nov. 27, as seen on his Instagram posts on the same day. Red roses and lit candles made the venue all the more romantic. To complete his surprise, Brown printed a life-size card with his words of love for Dallas.
“Today, on your special day I had the pleasure of putting a smile on your face all day,” the message read. “For there is no greater gift that I could think to give you.”
“That’s why today I wanted to give you the greatest gift that I could ever give you… my heart and soul completely, unwavering and all yours,” Brown wrote. “Will you accept and hold my hand in yours through this journey?”
His girlfriend’s shock was evident when he suddenly went down on one knee.
What made his proposal remarkable, however, was the assortment of rings for Dallas to choose from.
Six rings with varying cuts and sizes were presented to Dallas. His girlfriend, clad in a velvet maroon gown with a sweetheart neckline cried after seeing Brown’s proposal twist.
It was later revealed that Dallas chose the teardrop shaped ring in the selection.
To mark the new milestone in their relationship, the two kissed to the tune of Alicia Keys’ 2009 track “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready).”
“If you ask me, our Queens deserve the world and more,” wrote Brown on Thursday, Nov. 29.

Some, however, were not impressed. They said if Brown really knew his girlfriend, he would have known what kind of ring Dallas wanted in the first place.
I don’t think I would want a man proposing to me with six rings. You should know what I like by the time you propose to me. Because knowing me I probably thrown out plenty hints.

I don’t need someone to propose to me with six different rings. I want to be surprised because that’s what makes it special. If a guy really knows me, he’ll know which one is the perfect ring.
