MANILA, Philippines — Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray has revealed why she chose to wear a red dress during the pageant’s coronation day.

“The color red because when I was 13 years old, my mother told me ‘I had a dream. That you were in Miss Universe and you won in a red dress,’” Gray said during her press conference on Monday.

The 24-year-old beauty queen also shared how her mother became emotional after she was announced as the new Miss Universe titleholder.

Gray said: “When I saw her earlier, she said, ‘I dreamed this.’ She had tears in her eyes.”

The newly crowned Miss Universe also explained that the gown was inspired by Mount Mayon from her hometown, Albay.

“This is inspired by Mount Mayon. Mount Mayon is a famous volcano located in my hometown [in the] Bicol region of the Philippines,” Gray said.

She added: “It’s known because it’s a perfect cone shape. And that’s where we drew inspiration from. That magma.”

Gray sizzled at the pageant stage as she donned a red crystal-embellished gown during the Miss Universe coronation held at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

She is the fourth Filipina Miss Universe titleholder, following Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969). /ee
