Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Niê wore her terno-inspired dress during an event that announced her being chosen as the ambassador of this year’s Ao Dai Festival in Ho Chi Minh City.
The ao dai is the Vietnamese national garment, which consists of a tight silk tunic worn over loose trousers. The 2019 ao dai festival is set to be held in Ho Chi Minh City from March 2 to 17.
During a press conference yesterday, Feb. 26, to promote the upcoming festival, Niê wore a white ao dai designed with terno sleeves by designer Song Toan for the brand Kinzu. The beauty queen first wore the creation in a Naga youth event last Feb. 2.
Niê posed with the pristine white ao dai and her crown yesterday, as seen in pictures on her Instagram account. She wrote, “This is the second time I wore this special costume, the combination between Vietnamese and Philippines culture, in a special occasion Ao dai Festival 2019.”
“I’m so happy to be the ambassador of ‘Ao dai Festival 2019.’ And so honored to introduce the beauty of Ao dai with friends around the world!”
Niê posed alongside Vietnamese celebrities who graced the press conference with their own unique takes on the ao dai.
The terno-ao dai fusion stood out for its simplicity and elegance. Niê styled the dress with pearl earrings and a pearl brooch, which complemented the shiny beaded detail on the tunic.
Niê is the first Miss Universe Vietnam to land in the top 5 and was a fan favorite among Filipinos during the Miss Universe pageant held last December in Thailand. /ra
