Hello, summer—and with it comes a checklist of trends and essentials for all sojourns and festivities. If you’re set to start with the seasonal wardrobe update, Rustan’s has fresh on-trend arrivals for your summer pickings. Here’s a roundup of pieces we’d personally add to our shopping carts:
Rosé and citrus
If there’s anything we look forward to each Spring-Summer fashion season, it’s the veritable explosion of big, bold colors. This season, designers take inspiration from, quite wittingly, summer refreshments, with the colors of rosé and citrus (lemons, oranges, grapefruits and limes) playing a dominant role everywhere, from bags to suitings, from Gucci to Ferragamo.
Ruched and ruffled
Ruched dresses! Ruffles! Bows! S/S 2019 has a decidedly feminine flair with Valentino, Erdem, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, and even the normally straightforward Calvin Klein interpreting the girlish details many different ways. You, too, can have your own take on these frills: unapologetically romantic with barely-there sandals and headbands (à la Prada and Christian Dior), modern boho with feathered sandals (of the Valentino and Giambattista Valli variety) and raffia fringed totes à la Jacquemus.
Muted utility
Fashion and function don’t always go together, and when they do, you’d be smart to eat this trend up. Utility is big this season, as seen in Isabel Marant, Dries Van Noten and Fendi. For our tropical climate, rework this trend—and rethink the utilitarian jackets, oversized anoraks and combat boots—and think cleaner and softened silhouettes. Consider lightweight cargo pants, playsuits, jumpsuits and lots of khaki.
Beach basics
But we can’t just be thinking about trends, can we? Summer isn’t summer without a beach escape, and you can tick off items on your essentials list with one quick trip to Rustan’s—from the kids’ swimsuits and toys to your own beach basics (and not-so-basic Chiara Ferragni slides).
Neo prints
Yes, nothing groundbreaking with this trend, but this season’s prints run the gamut from flora and fauna to downright wonky. And for the gents: You can now give the Hawaiian shirts a break. Ricardo Preto’s graphic dress shirts are exactly what you need if you want to take in summer’s more playful vibe. —CONTRIBUTED
