Caritas Manila’s (CM) donations-in-kind program, Segunda Mana, raised P287.4 million from 2008 to 2018. From January to July of 2019 it reported an additional gross revenue of P41,490,980, bringing the total to P328,890,980.

Segunda Mana has previously raised P70 million annual gross sales. Its target is to generate P150 million annual gross sales to fund CM’s programs and services for the poor.

Segunda Mana encourages individuals and corporations to donate items they no longer need or nonmoving inventory such as clothes, shoes, toys, school supplies, books, home and office furniture and appliances.

Donated items are sold and converted to cash to be used for CM’s social services and development programs. Major beneficiary is the Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program or YSLEP scholarship.

Funds generated by Segunda Mana help produce 1,000 YSLEP graduates each year, said CM executive director Fr. Anton CT Pascual.

Segunda Mana is also a social entrepreneurship program. Some donated items are sold in bulk to around 400 microentrepreneur families who then sell these as a livelihood. This encourages the poor to become self-reliant.

Segunda Mana has 34 charity outlets nationwide.
