It’s absolutely the most festive way to dress up your holiday dining table.

This Christmas Tree Bread invites every family member to enjoy a soft pastry filled with melted cheese and creamy pesto.

This holiday snack only takes a few easy steps to make and is fun to do with the whole family, especially with the children. It’s also ideal for potluck parties this season of bingeing.

“This will surely be a hit at any Christmas party buffet table,” says chef Winnie Wong, technical product manager of Philippine Foremost Milling Corp. “It’s best served warm and with a special dipping sauce that you can make ahead of time.”

For the dipping sauce, Wong suggests combining melted butter and flour (Amigo Gold Soft Wheat Flour) in a sauce pot over low heat. Pour in fresh milk while continuously whisking to achieve a smooth consistency. Add grated cheese and paprika. Turn off heat and stir in drained corned pork (La Filipina Corned Pork).

Christmas Tree Bread

500 g Family All-Purpose Flour

7.5 g instant yeast

40 g milk powder

200 g water

60 g refined sugar

5 g salt

100 g eggs

50 g unsalted butter

Filling:

80 g store-bought pesto

150 g melting cheese, grated

Garnish:

Fresh basil leaves

Cherry tomatoes

To make the dough, sift Family All-Purpose Flour with instant yeast and milk powder. Set aside. Dissolve sugar and salt in water. Using an electricmixer, combine wet
ingredients with dry ingredients and start to mix at low speed. Add in eggs and continue mixing.

Once dough starts to become elastic, add butter. Transfer dough in a smooth surface. Roll dough into a ball, transfer to a greased bowl and cover. Set aside till dough doubles in size.

Divide dough into two pieces. Roll out each piece into triangle shapes.

Take the first triangle and spread pesto onto the dough. Sprinkle grated cheese.

Cover dough with the second piece of dough triangle.

Using a pizza cutter or a knife, make slits along both sides of the triangle from top to bottom, taking care not to cut through the center “stem.” Slice the bottom part into
Christmas tree.

Twist each strip outward to form a tree shape. Let it rest for 40 minutes.

Bake bread at 170 degrees Celsius for 18-25 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.

Once the bread is out of the oven, brush with more pesto. Garnish with basil leaves and cherry tomatoes.
