Personal grudge and disparate political leanings have come to the fore as Vivian Velez and Isabel Rivas exchanged harsh words recently on social media.

Last July 10, Velez rejoiced over the non-renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise after 70 congressman voted “Yes” to the resolution denying the Kapamilya’s application for a legislative franchise.

In a series of messages on her Facebook account recently, Velez articulated her joy in the closure of the number one network she was once part of as an actress. Velez appeared in “Tubig At Langis” where she tendered her irrevocable resignation following a spat with the soap opera’s lead actress Cristine Reyes.

The following were her statements, made on July 10 and 11.

“Thank you Congress. You did good for the country.”

“Today…We made history! 70-11”

“The rule of the majority. That’s how democracy works. Thank you to the magnificent 70 for connecting the dots. #bestofCongress.”

Reacting to Velez’s statements, Rivas did not mince words in describing the former nymphet-actress.

“Walang kwentang tao talaga ito, sexy ka lang nung araw pero no brains ka talaga…,” she initially said in her own Facebook account yesterday, July 11.

(You really are nothing, you were just sexy in the old days, but you really don’t have brains.)

Rivas further pushed her attack by stressing that Velez is one ungrateful and disrespectful star.

“[Nanaba] na lang sana utak mo ng may natira ka pang industria na rerespeto sa’yo… Adding insult to injury ka pa dyan sa mga umiiyak na nakatrabaho mo, wala ka talagang kahihiyan… ingrata!!!”

(Your brain should have swelled so there would still be an industry left to respect you. You’re adding insult to injury to those co-workers of yours who are now crying. You’re bereft of shame. Ingrate.)

Rivas dropped hints that she and Velez have a deep-seated spat as she recalled, “45- years kitang kilala, akala ko ako lang aapihin mo, hindi mo pala alam talaga salitang kaibigan noh!!!”

(I’ve known you for 45 years, I thought I would be the only one whom you will maltreat. You don’t really know the word friend.)

With her post, Vivian, according to Rivas, have shown her true colors.

“True character on display here Vivian Velez… empathy man lang sana natutunan mo!!” (You should learn what empathy is.)

Although she did not name Rivas, Velez’s recent post on her Facebook account seemingly showed her response to her.

“Dating ‘ingiterang’ actress friend, putak ng putak at minumura ako dahil DDS daw ako. Tumitira ka pa rin ng palaka? #maTOKHANGkaSANA,” Velez posted.

“Former envious friend, talking and talking and cursing me because I am supposedly DDS. Are you still taking on frogs?)

Velez, appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as director-general of the Film Academy of the Philippines, was known as a sexy star in the 1980s. Rivas, sister to former actor Dennis Roldan and aunt to beauty queen-volleybelle Michelle Gumabao, was among Velez’s contemporaries while still starring in various TV series over the years, both in ABS-CBN and GMA.
