For Lauren Young, getting her voice heard is more important than losing a job. This she articulated in a series of tweets today, July 18.

“Kasi sa totoo lang you can do both eh. (In truth, you can do both.) You can spread positivity!!! Go ahead!! But I don’t think its spreading negativity when you spread awareness on issues that affect us all as citizens,” she said on Twitter.

Admitting she fears losing work for being vocal about issues, she adamantly believes that getting one’s voice heard is important.

“Whenever I speak out honestly may takot ako na baka mawalan ako ng trabaho from brands. But then again, in the long run, mas takot akong mawala ang freedom ko to voice out my opinions,” she said.

(Whenever I speak out honestly I have fear that I will lose work from brands. But then again, in the long run, I am more afraid to lose my freedom to voice out my opinions.)

“So yeah I’ll post a selfie once in a while for work but you can never silence me. Periodt,” she said.

A certain Khryza Beth (@khryzabeth) agreed with her, commenting, “Yes at the end of the day karapatan din naman nilang manahimik or not do anything about it at all BUT there are words such as UTANG NA LOOB, PAKIKIISA, at PAKIKISIMPATYA and that’s what the majority of the 11,000+ workers need.”
