There were so many heartbreaking images from the typhoons, among them the pictures of animals on rooftops, and worse, those that perished because they were left behind. But there are people and organizations devoted to helping the animals and you can help them, too.

Send aid to this no-kill shelter

According to Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), San Mateo Pound is one of the few no-kill shelters in the country—they do not euthanize animals.

Ulysses ravaged San Mateo Pound and they are in need of the following: dog food, dog food bowls, dog food containers, blankets, trash bags, walis tingting and other cleaning materials.

AKF is collecting donations for San Mateo Pound. Drop-off points include: Pet Wellness Center (care of Doc May; 76 Visayas Ave., Barangay Varsa, Quezon City; tel. 0917-8316826); AKF Makati Office (204 Heart Tower, Valero St., Salcedo Village; Makati City; tel. 0947-9990134), AKF Shelter (8 Purante St., Barangay Cubcub, Capas, Tarlac); and San Mateo Pound (Monterock, Barangay Dulongbayan 1 San Mateo, Rizal).

You may also donate money through the following accounts: BDO (Animal Kingdom Foundation, 0069-10110365); BPI (Animal Kingdom Foundation Inc., 1681-001588); RCBC (Current account: Animal Kingdom Foundation, 0046-010931); Paypal ([email protected]); Gcash through campaign officer Tony Inting (tel. 0915-

916831) and lead volunteer Gretzel Duey (tel. 0929-6124179). You may also send money through MLhuillier (Animal Kingdom Foundation under Bills Payment).

Donate to this mini shelter

“Lumubog sa tubig at putik ang mini shelter ni Nic,” wrote Carina Jimenez Suarez, an animal lover who runs Mama’s Cradle Animal Sanctuary and who has dedicated her life to rescuing animals and nursing them back to health.

Nic Samong’s mini shelter in Teresa, Rizal, was devastated by the typhoon. According to Suarez, Samong still has 26 dogs and 19 cats with her. “She is one person who will sacrifice and do anything for her rescues,” said Suarez.

You can help by donating dog food, cat food, bowls, pails, towels, old blankets and cleaning supplies. They also need volunteers, sponsors and supplies for rebuilding the shelter.

Donations can be made through BDO (Francisco Willie J. Suarez, savings account no. 004310124553); Cebuana Lhuillier (Corazon N. Samong, 9154985487) or GCash through Kayla Faye Suarez (tel. 0917-8212331).

Buy plants

You can help while making your plantita self happy.

Suarez is selling some of her rare plants so the money can be used to buy dog food and cat food (facebook.com/carina.n.suarez). Among the plants for sale are: Philodendron giganteum, Philodendron linnaei, Philodendron olympiad, Sansevieria siam silver or Metallica, Linnaei, Amydrium medium, Alocasia boyceana, Hoya cummingiana, Alocasia heterophylla, Alocasia ramosii.

AKF’s rescued dogs who are now at the AKF Shelter in Capas, Tarlac, also need help and you can offer assistance by joining the #RunFurLife5 Virtual Fun Run.

The kit includes a drift runner’s shirt, a doggo bandana, a washable face mask, an AKF drawstring bag and freebies from their event partners.
