MANILA, Philippines — Fashion designer Ben Farrales, whom the industry fondly calls the Dean of Philippine fashion, has passed away. He was 88.
His grandniece Jaimie Farrales told INQUIRER.net the fashion designer died on Saturday, March 6.
Best known for his pieces that took inspiration from Muslim culture, Farrales was among the pioneer designers who put the Philippines on the international map of fashion.
In his six decades in the industry, he took the “malong” fashion to other parts of the world like Canada, Los Angeles, New York, and more.
In 2015, he was awarded by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) the “Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining,” its highest award, for his contribution in design.
