Summer cooler to boost the immune system

Food and beverage assistant manager Giolo Racelis shares his personal brew made of local ingredients overflowing with health benefits.

Dubbed Newness, the drink features complementing flavors of basil and ginger with the tropical blend of calamansi, pineapple and guyabano (soursop) puree.It is anti-inflammatory and is good for digestion. It likewise boosts the immune system, helps lower blood pressure, provides a good source of fiber and increases energy.

Racelis, a De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde graduate, currently teaches bar and facilities courses at his alma mater.

He is the assistant food and beverage manager at Discovery Suites.



45 ml white rum (optional)

45 ml guyabano puree

90 ml pineapple juice

30 ml calamansi juice

30 ml simple syrup

5 g basil leaves

5 g ginger

Muddle ginger in a cocktail shaker.

Put all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.

Double strain and pour into glass.

Garnish with basil leaves.
