The Ironman World Championship and 70.3 World Championship will no longer be held this year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, race organizers have decided to postpone the event to Feb. 6, 2021.

Meanwhile, there is no new date yet for the 70.3 World Championship, which was supposed to be held in New Zealand. Both races are dubbed two of the greatest triathlon tournaments in the world.

According to officials, the decision to postpone both races is due to travel restrictions around the world and the inability of local partners to host qualifying events.

“As the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact events around the world, both world championship events have seen a majority of their respective qualifying events postponed or unable to take place in 2020, impeding the ability to produce and host truly competitive world championship events,” stated the press release.
