A young Filipina has launched her upcycled fashion line, with hopes of influencing the public to steer clear of fast fashion.

Born and raised in San Pedro, Laguna, Alyanna Ferrer obtained her degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

She recently released The Remake Collection under her namesake brand, which explores the evolution of the DNA of unwanted materials, which was preserved as they were reborn as different garments.

Ferrer sources all of her materials from Humble Sustainability, a community which collects and distributes materials from households and businesses for reuse and recycling, all for circular living.

These old school uniforms, worn-out jeans, discarded upholstery covers and linen sheets now take the form of a resurrected, stylish, comfortable and environmentally responsible garments, all with a new lease on life.

A past collection, The Reissue, likewise talked about a movement toward breaking the “take-make-dispose” fashion cycle, teaching consumers the discipline of utilizing clothes and other resources.

Looking to the future, Ferrer aims to expand her network as she gears for an e-commerce partnership later in the year.
