Last Feb. 6, the Embassy of New Zealand commemorated Waitangi Day, the day the nation’s founding document was enshrined, and celebrated the spirit of partnership and understanding between the Philippines and New Zealand, at Fairmont Makati.
Ambassador Peter Kell reflected on the nation’s journey and its longstanding relationship with the Philippines. He spoke of the two partners’ commitment to building bridges of friendship and a cooperation that spans various sectors, including trade, education, development and defense. New Zealand has been a steadfast friend, providing support and assistance when it is needed most.
The Philippines has also been there for Aotearoa New Zealand, supporting economic and social challenges and opportunities through its companies investing in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the Philippines sharing its considerable talent.
The strong and stable foundation enables both countries to do more together to make the region safer and more prosperous. As Kell is wrapping up his assignment, he ended the night by extending his thanks for the hospitality and support that was given to his family during his four-year stay. —CONTRIBUTED
