We are totally loving the recent hype around one of our favorite Pinoy flavors: ube.

While the rest of the world is only fawning over its pretty purple color and mildly sweet flavor now, we have been enjoying cones of ube “dirty ice cream” since childhood. Speaking of ice cream, our dear manong sorbeteros never fail to include ube ice cream in their carts, and a scoop of ube ice cream is what completes our halo-halo experience as well.

That’s why for today’s “support local businesses” agenda, we bring you unique Pinoy ice cream flavors that will intrigue you enough to have an entire tub delivered to your home.

It’s hot and it’s cold—and it’s very delicious, despite sounding like a strange combination. While still sweet and creamy, sili ice cream also gives an interesting kick as an aftertaste, which makes it a must-try for those who love spicy food.

Puto and cheese by Carousel Creamery

With 101 flavors in their roster, it’s not surprising to find various “crazy” flavors that throw an ode to some of our favorite local treats. These include the delectable puto and cheese flavor, which kakanin enthusiasts will love.

Along with the country’s favorite tropical fruit, this local kakanin is the main star in Manila Creamery’s sweet frozen treat.

Polvoron by Merry Moo Ice Cream

Although polvoron originated from Spain, this soft and powdery shortbread has also become a well-loved snack in the Philippines. Now, the bits and texture of this powdered milk treat is also the highlight of this ice cream from Merry Moo.

Need some nostalgia? Dig into a tub of this frozen treat, which features HawHaw, the sweet and powdery milk candy we all loved from our childhood.

Sapin-sapin by Sebastian’s Ice Cream

Here’s another must-try kakanin x ice cream collaboration: the sapin-sapin ice cream from the local artisanal ice cream brand Sebastian’s. They have champorado with dilis and green mango with bagoong flavors, too.

Pili whiskey by Ambassador’s Ice Cream

Here’s an intoxicating—er, interesting—suggestion: pili nut ice cream infused with whiskey from Ambassador’s, which puts bananas caramelized with coco sugar into the mix as well. As an additional treat, this ice cream is also vegan.

Gabi by Geno’s Ice Cream Las Piñas

No, gabi is not just for sinigang or laing, it’s also for desserts. In fact, you probably hear it being used as a flavor through its other name: taro.
