#WalangPasok: Yes, even online classes are suspended because of tropical storm Pepito | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Last month, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said class suspensions will still be allowed despite the shift to online learning in times of typhoons and other calamities.

With tropical storm Pepito expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow morning or afternoon, rainfall is expected in several areas in north Luzon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In line with this, all classes in all levels are suspended in La Trinidad, Benguet (public and private, including work in government offices), Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College, Marikina and Coronado’s School of Quezon City.

La Trinidad local government said the suspension is to give families time to prepare for the tropical storm as the locality is expected to experience rains and heavy winds.

Meanwhile, the two schools in Metro Manila cited precautions related to possible internet interruption that may be caused by continuous downpour.

According to the latest weather bulletin, the following localities are under tropical cyclone wind signal #2 (61-120 km/h winds prevailing or expected in 24 hours):

  • La Union
  • Northern portion of Zambales
  • Western portion of Pangasinan

Tropical cyclone wind signal #1 (30-60 km/h winds prevailing or expected in 36 hours), on the other hand, is imposed upon:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Rest of Pangasinan
  • Abra
  • Western portion of Kalinga
  • Western portion of Mountain Province
  • Western portion of Ifugao
  • Western portion of Nueva Vizcaya
  • Western portion of Nueva Ecija
  • Tarlac
  • Rest of Zambales
