Jennifer Lawrence Fronts the First Painted 'Vogue' September Cover | Lifestyle.INQ

Jennifer Lawrence stars in her third Vogue cover shoot in a big way for three reasons. First, this is the all-important September issue. Second, it’s the 125th anniversary edition. Third, this issue features four covers, one of which is painted by artist John Currin.

This is the first painted September cover of Vogue, the style of which deviates from John’s penchant for eroticism. But it was a welcome challenge, according to the painter. “I was interested in seeing my work in a completely different way. I liked the idea of seeing it with the Vogue logo and other words and things over it,” he said to The New York Times.

In the painting, Jennifer is depicted in a Mannerist pose which is meant to look unnatural but is poised. A patterned fur Miu Miu hat on Jennifer’s head adds an element of the uncanny to the piece.

The other three covers for the September issue were photographed by Inez and Vinoodh, Annie Leibovitz, and Bruce Weber. In the feature, Jennifer talks about her career so far and also jokes about the commissioned painting. “‘How do I broach that?’” she asks. “’Who else would want it?’”
