Manila is no longer just on the outside looking in: GMG Productions is bringing the UK touring production of the Tony Award-winning musical here
Manila’s up for another season of musical wishes granted because the critically acclaimed “Dear Evan Hansen” will finally be making a stop on our local stage.
GMG Productions is bringing in the UK touring production of the Benj Pasek and Justin Paul musical this September. “Filipino audiences have been asking for ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ for years, and we’re beyond excited to finally bring this production to Manila,” says GMG CEO Carlos Candal. “The story, music, and message of ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ resonate so deeply with so many people, and we can’t wait for Filipino fans to experience it live.”

The musical revolves around universal themes of self-acceptance, connection, and truth—even more timely now as we navigate an increasingly isolating society. “Dear Evan Hansen” follows the eponymous character Evan, an oft-bullied high school student with social anxiety who just wants to belong. His strong desire to connect results in a misunderstanding, which blows up into a scale he can no longer control. He is then faced with a dilemma: Does he tell the truth, or will he continue the facade to live the life he’s always wanted?
“Dear Evan Hansen” has won Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Orchestration at the 2017 Tony Awards. It also won Best Musical Theater Album at the Grammys in 2018. Its West End production also won Best New Musical and Best Original Score or New Orchestrations at the 2020 Olivier Awards.
Tickets for the Manila run of “Dear Evan Hansen” will be available starting April 15.
