It’s a weird time right now for Filipinos. For the lucky ones with a home, we’ve been holed up in our houses for over a week and developing a mild case of cabin fever. For those without, the problems are much worse. It can be hard to look for a ray of light in the current atmosphere. Thankfully, art projects like Garapata’s are providing a lighter look onto the situation.
Garapata is currently working on an anecdotal series of comics. Dex Fernandez, the man behind the persona, has been crowdsourcing funny stories—either personal or overheard—of people’s quarantine experiences to reinterpret into the world of Garapata.
“I know we’re in the middle of a crisis [in] this pandemic, but let’s cheer ourselves up,” he writes. And he’s right—we do need a laugh to serve as a little bit of respite every now and then.
