National Artist Ryan Cayabyab is the sole Filipino to receive Ramon Magsaysay Award this year | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

It has barely been a year since Ryan Cayabyab was named a National Artist for Music, but he has once again been recognized for his contributions to the art. Cayabyab, known for his legacy in the music industry as a composer, conductor, and producer, was recognized for “nurturing the gift and undying power of music.”

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is known to be the most prestigious and highest award given to known leaders in Asia. For over five decades, the award had been given to over 300 hundred outstanding men, women, and organization, who served Asia and the world through their service.

The awardees are selected by the trustees of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation where a certificate and a medallion is given. The award will be presented on Aug. 31 to honor the birthday of former Pres. Ramon Magsaysay.

Cayabyab is the only musician and Filipino who has been given the award this year. Other winners include Ko Swe Win from Myanmar, Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, Ravish Kumar from Indian and Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea.

Some of the songs Cayabyab produced are “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika”, “Kailan”, and “Can This Be Love,” which many have come to know by heart.

Growing up, we’ve become fond of the mellowness of his songs. Now his achievement has made us not only nostalgic but also proud of our heritage.
