Janine Gutierrez is the moment. We’ve known this since the former Scout cover star bagged best actress awards from FAMAS and Gawad Urian in 2020. If you want to know what’s up, it’s high time to watch “Babae at Baril” (The Gun and The Girl).
Didn’t catch it during QCinema 2019? You’re still in luck. Netflix has just announced that they’re making the revenge-thriller film available starting June 3.
Directed and written by Rae Red, this story follows a woman (Janine Gutierrez) who works at a department store. Every day she faces horrible events that all involve men—from her manager to the catcallers in the streets. Soon, she finds a peculiar-looking gun on her doorstep, and her life changes from that moment onward.
“Personal naman daw lahat ng bagay. Kahit ‘yung mga alam mong hindi naman talaga, ‘yung mga walang kaugnay sa ‘yo, sus, meron ‘yun. Meron at meron,” Elijah Canlas, who plays Jun, opens the jazz-infused trailer—letting us into the conversation the film is about to start.
(Everything is personal. Even things that seem to have nothing to do with you, those that seem to have no connection to you,. they somehow affect you. They always do.)
