Rock Drilon’s recommended bike routes

UP Diliman bike lanes. 2.2-km loop of the inner lane of the academic oval. Shared with joggers. Under the shades of acacia trees. Good for beginners. No fees. There is also a 15-km trail, a combination of cement and one-track human foot trails. Good way to see the beautiful campus.

Camp Aguinaldo mountain bike trail. 2.54-km playground composed of singletracks, jumps, and switchbacks. There are hardly any climbs. Perfect for beginners. Fee: P50. Find a map at

Fort Bonifacio (Army Camp) mountain bike trail. 5 km loop made from about three or four empty lots inside the base. Two options, the easy trail and the hard trail. Open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 am, and the whole day on Saturdays and Sundays. Valid ID required to get in the base. Fee: P50. Map at

Marikina River Bank bike lanes. 14-km stretch that follows the river banks from the river mall to Tumana bridge and back. (Note: Certain parts are impassable at the moment.) Passes through a leisure park and goes under three major bridges. No fees.

La Mesa Dam Eco Park mountain bike trail. 1.2-km loop of forested trail. Uphill and downhill with stony portions. Fee: P40.

La Mesa Reserve Eco-Trails. Probably the best we have in Metro Manila. 5 km loop of heavily forested trails. Option to venture unto a 17 (and above)-km stretch of single- and double-track uphill and downhill trails. Strictly abide by the rules given during the orientation by the forest rangers. CCP Bike Lane (Green Lane). 3.5-km route within the CCP Complex. For beginners. Shared with joggers.

Muntinlupa Bike Trail. 16.5 km.


Maarat. 5-km climb, some parts are tough. Going back downhill can be dangerous. Double check brakes and see to it they are working properly before the decend. No fees.

Pinugay (Batlag Falls)

Wawa Dam. Nestled at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains in Montalban, Rizal, is the Wawa Dam. Site is 30 minutes away from Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, but can also be accessed from Marikina through JP Rizal.

Marikina-Rizal-Famy Laguna-Infanta route. Overnight then back the following morning. Smooth asphalt roads, beautiful scenery, forests, mountain, sea and waterfalls by the road. 162 km of rolling terrain, one way. If too tired to bike back, you can always take the bus back to Ortigas.
