We’ve covered a few ways you can get a cake for your quarantine celebrations—like calling up a few bakeries or rolling up your sleeves and making your own—but what if you’re feeling a little tired of having regular cake with buttercream frosting?
Fortunately, there are different options for you out there. Here are a few savory cake ideas and where you can get them.
Sushi cakes
Before the sushi bake, there was the sushi cake. This version of our favorite Japanese dish involves layers of rice, cucumber, as well as fish like salmon and tuna—all drizzled with teriyaki sauce or Kewpie mayonnaise.
These cakes are usually inspired by classic sushi rolls, like the salmon and kani aburi sushi cake from Sushi Cake MNL. Their version of kani aburi sushi has layers of kani, tobiko, sweet mangoes and cream cheese, topped with salmon torched to perfection.

You can also get a California maki-inspired cake from Bambi’s Gourmet Kitchen. Their cakes have California maki rolls stuffed with kani, garnished with fresh mango slices and roe, with a generous amount of their special sauce.

Caviar pie
Looking for dishes to enjoy with crackers or wine? Pair them with a rich caviar pie. These are usually made with capers, eggs, onions, cream cheese, sour cream and copious amounts of caviar.
One of the cakes you can choose from is the Saumon Caviar Cake, which is a version of caviar cake topped with smoked salmon rosettes. You can treat yourself to a small cake made for two people or get a bigger size if you’re celebrating with family.

If you’re not into salmon, you can get caviar pie paired with prosciutto from Etxeko Manila. Their caviar pies are made with honey truffle, fig and dates—which combines salty, sweet and tangy flavor notes in one pie.

Lumpia cake
Here’s a different way of enjoying Pinoy party food like lumpiang Shanghai and pancit sotanghon at miki during quarantine: having them as cake. Instead of placing these dishes in different platters, the pancit is placed in the middle and surrounded by crispy Shanghai to make it look like a cake.

One restaurant that’s recently added this cake on their menu is MilkyWay Café. Their cakes are made for quarantine birthday celebrations with your family, since their Pancit Sotanghon Lumpia Cake can serve 10-12 persons.
Pork cake
But if you’re looking for something a little crispier, or maybe you’re just craving Thai cuisine, you can get a towering rice and pork cake. One of the restaurants you can call is Thai Plate: Their deep-fried pork with sticky rice weigh two pounds, come with deep-fried pork slices and topped with cilantro and chili.
