P444 duck confit, P44 pastries and other delivery steals for Manila Pen’s 44th anniversary | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

When the grandiose socialite hangout place The Lobby at The Peninsula Manila first opened in 1976, it didn’t have the same afternoon tea offering that it has become known for. Instead, according to Manila Pen, they only served coffee with biscuit on the side.

A lot has changed 44 years after. For one, as seen in these archival photos, there are now towering palm trees that watch over you as you have tea. Likewise, the menu has expanded largely because “hungry Manileños clamoured for more variety, and that’s how classics like the schüblig and pancit luglug came to be,” the hotel management said.

Food has since been instrumental to the hotel experience at Manila Pen. This is why for their 44th birthday this year, its dining establishments—The Peninsula Boutique, The Lobby, Spices, Old Manila, Escolta, the Pool Snack Bar, Salon de Ning and The Bar—are offering irresistible meal deals available for takeout and delivery for the whole month of October.

“We were really happy at how popular our anniversary promotion turned out to be. So, due to popular demand, we’ve decided to continue celebrating our 44th anniversary until Oct. 30,” said The Peninsula Manila General Manager Masahisa Oba.

“We will still be offering popular items like Old Manila’s beef Wellington, The Lobby’s kimchi fried rice and chicken satay from Spices. But we’ve also added new dishes and included the menus from Escolta and the Pool Snack Bar. And we’re still promising you a traipse down memory lane with our signature Peninsula dishes.”

These include both comforting and elaborate international cuisine ranging from Asian favorites to western meals with prices too good to pass up on. How much, you ask? Let’s just say you can score P44 French pastries as well as entrees for as low as P444.

And these are not just everyday meals you can easily whip up at home either, which makes the deal even more worth it. Plus, for orders within Makati, a minimum of P2,000 entitles you to complimentary delivery.

At The Lobby, for example, you can get grilled schüblig sausage, pan-roasted Norwegian salmon and mushroom risotto as well as Filipino favorites like pancit luglug and kare-kare at P444 each.

P444 duck confit cassoulet with chorizo, white beans, herb and citrus breadcrumbs, and beef cheeks bourguignon with mustard mashed potato and red wine sauce await you at Old Manila.

Pastries from The Peninsula Boutique like muffins, ensaymada, big cookie, donut, brownie and cinnamon bun go for only P44 each until the end of the month, too. P200 assorted French pastry boxes and loaves together with P444 small cakes (truffle chocolate cake, cashew sans rival, New York cheesecake, strawberry shortcake and King Oscar) makes for an even good deal.

If you feel like splurging a little, for less than P2,000, you can also take home Old Manila’s famed Angus beef ribeye steak or The Bar’s bottled batched Aperol spritz, margarita and negroni to go.

To order, message The Peninsula Manila on Facebook Messenger, Viber, WeChat or WhatsApp and through their 24-hour e-concierge called PenChat. You can also call 8887-5747 or 8887-2888 and email [email protected]

Orders must be placed 24 hours before delivery or pick-up and cut-off for delivery orders is at 4 p.m. Orders placed after cut-off will only be available for next-day delivery or pick-up.

A P200 delivery fee applies to serviceable areas within BGC and Mandaluyong with a minimum P2,000 single-receipt transaction. For third-party delivery services, pick-up point is at the Employees’ Entrance located at the corner of Sto. Tomas St. and Makati Ave.
