The Team’s Favorites From Last Week (10/10/2016) | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

What’s up? This week, the team is heading over to DLSU for a field day with the young ‘uns and we’re also going to learn from the masters this Saturday (holler at us for tickets. It’s a good deal). Some of you saw some of our faves already at Instagram and Snapchat (@scoutmagph) so here’s the full list:

PEPI, Editor in chief, @roiswar

Marvel’s Luke Cage — I can understand if this doesn’t go over well because of how African-American the narrative is, but it’s really, really great. It’s not your average superhero series the way Daredevil and Jessica Jones were, but I am really loving it so far. Iron Fist has its work cut out for it; Luke Cage really is one hell of a show to follow.

A Seat at the Table — I know Bruno Mars just put out a fire new single, but Solange’s new album is the low-key best release of the past week. It just hit #1 in the Billboard charts, and for good measure: it’s both highly personal and political, and in an age where people would rather put out homogeneous club bangers, the younger Knowles dropped a supremely-crafted personal and political work of music. I daresay it’s this year’s Black Messiah.

Nike Air Zoom Structure 20 — It’s the sexiest modern running shoe with a throwback silhouette. I just personally can’t wait for the flyknit trend to be over, though, no matter how comfy it is.

How To Get Away With Murder – I AM STARTING TO GET SO HOOKED ON THIS CRIME SOLVING STORIES. All caps for emphasis. #Colliver forever!
vaseline for ya lips bruh
Vaseline Lip Therapy lip balm – It’s almost Christmas, meaning the weather’s going to be crazy again and whenever that happens, my lips are chapped like a desert. And this lip balm does the trick for me.
vita coco

Vita Coco Pure Coconut Water – Next best (healthy) thing to lemon water there is.

DENISE, Editorial Assistant, @denibeans

W – For the first time, I was actually forced to watch a Korean drama–and more ironically, by my best friend who doesn’t normally watch Korean dramas in the first place. But wow, this show is intense as fuck! I’m only a few episodes in but it sure knows how to give some good cliffhanger endings. The budding chemistry between Han Hyo Joo and Lee Jong Suk is phenomenal.

Uniqlo Striped Shirt – Only god knows how much I love Uniqlo. I’ve been hoarding long sleeved tops for my upcoming trip abroad. As I’ve mentioned to my brother when I bought it, I really like this shirt because it’s so…cartoony? I feel like I’ve stepped out of a Hey, Arnold! episode whenever I wear this.

14leandro

14 Leandro Road – I brushed up on my Edgar Allan Poe just a few hours before watching this stage play. 14 Leandro Road actually put some new and innovative twists into the classic Fall of the House of Usher, like incest and homosexuality. It was also stunning to see such raw Filipino talent take the stage in our native tongue. It’s a shame that the play only ran for two days.

LEX, Editorial Assistant, @lexcereal

Full Circle: Grime in Japan – I fucking love UK grime: Skepta, Stormzy, Section Boyz, all that. This documentary about a Grime scene happening thousands of miles away from its origin is mind-blowing. Manila Grime where you at?

Strepsils – Shout out to Strepsils for helping me cope with my sore throat and aching gums last week.

Drone, by Allan Popa – I’m not good at poetry; writing it, understanding it. But I still read poetry from authors my friends recommend, and I end up reading Drone again and again. Here’s an excerpt from one of the poems:

In the skin of what I fear
I warm my blood. I live

within the hollow of sockets eyeing
the animal that did not flinch

to see me at my most alive.
