On your next UP visit, look for these wildlife species | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Whether it’s to jog or exercise outdoors, or just to get some fresh air, the 493-hectare University of the Philippines – Diliman (UPD) campus is one of the popular (and one of the last remaining) green spaces in Manila.

The UP Wild Facebook page posted a biodiversity map of the Diliman campus, showing the various plants and animals that can be spotted in the different habitats present in UPD. Among these habitats are grasslands, grass open forests, layered open forests, urban open forests, croplands, and wetlands.

Aside from a number of native trees, the UPD campus is also home to creatures like the Philippine scops owl, Philippine rat snake, black-crowned night heron, black-winged stilt, coppersmith barbet, and more.

As of today, Metro Manila is still under ECQ until Aug. 20. During this period, only essential establishments are allowed to operate. Exercising outdoors has also been prohibited
