The Red Cross Manila Chapter held a successful dinner-dance at the Manila hotel recently, which was a kick-off event for the planning of the Valentine Ball.
Chair Dick Gordon gave an inspiring speech to a crowd of donors and patrons, who raided funds for the upgrading of medical equipment to service our poor and displaced countrymen. These funds will purchase new ambulances, improve the Blood bank, and support the Red Cross Ward at the Philippine General Hospital.
“We are simply volunteers of the Red Cross. The Red Cross operates in 188 countries, it is impartial to wars or governments, its only aim is to help humanity, to give them dignity and freedom from illness,” said Secretary Gordon.
“Our next fundraising ball will evoke the Kahirup fetes in the ’50s,” said director Greta Yao Go.
“We plan to revive the debutante ball where daughters of prominent Old Manila families will celebrate their official coming out to society. This will happen on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, next year. Maybe we’ll have prominent local designers to make couture gowns for the lovely young ladies, and have them escorted by dashing men from the film, sports and music industry.”
