The Telegraph warns that the salt content in your favorite fast food meals might be higher than what you are used to when you eat abroad.

For example, a serving of a Chicken McNuggets Happy Meal in Britain contains just 0.7 g of salt, but if you were to order the same meal in South Africa, you’ll be getting 1.67 g of salt. In the US, it has been found that a cheeseburger from Burger King has 15 per cent more salt than if you were to get it in the UK.

This serves as further warning to people planning their vacations abroad especially, since most countries have not adapted concrete actions to reduce salt in their diets.

Multiple studies have repeated the health risks posed by excessive intake of salt especially in children. These include heightened chances of heart failure, increased blood pressure, and stroke.

So if you are planning a trip abroad in the upcoming holidays, your once safe and familiar choice of eating in a fast food chain, may not be (unsurprisingly) safe at all.
