The 1950s have shown us ways to look timeless and casually elegant. It is the benchmark to study for classic trends. From the Dior look and the peplum dress, to light long-sleeved blouses and jeans, we have reimagined and modernized the classic ’50s look.
Sweet treats for everyone
Feeling a bit flirty and sweet? The peplum silhouette gives anyone a sassy, curvaceous look.
Floral peplum tube dress, blue chain belt, and hot pink pumps, Suiteblanco; pearl hoop earrings. Carpe Diem necklace, Forever 21
Lady masculine
The 1950s was when women started to wear pants and jeans to work. Wear printed skinny jeans for a vibrant modern look.
ON KELSEY: Purple sweatshirt and printed skinny jeans, Uniqlo; studded cap, rings, necklace and cut-out brogues, all Forever 21.
Soft long-sleeve blouses started to emerge in this era. Update this ’50s trend by picking a blouse with a playful Peter Pan leather collar.
White buttoned-down with leather collar accent, orange shoulder bag, peep-toe wedge shoes, Suiteblanco; polka-dot headband, studded cat’s-eye glasses, printed high-waist shorts, mint green ankle socks, Forever 21
Full circle
The full skirt was big in that decade. Give it a quirky twist with a graphic sweatshirt, and by cinching it with a neon orange belt.

Light, airy and easy
The ’50s shift dress is versatile, fits all body types and is the easiest to wear. Just stack on accessories for a playful 2013 vibe.
