9. Help them discover the wonders of technology. Teach them how to text. Or e-mail. Or Google—even if all they want to Google are bed bugs.

10. Talk. And I mean really talk. Ask all the things you’ve never asked them before. How they met. What they love about each other. What they remember about your childhood. What they remember about theirs. What’s on their bucket list. What they’re passionate about. Their regrets. Their happiest memories. These conversations are precious and they will last you a lifetime.
