“Do you think we’ll finish early?” Pathra Cadness asks politely. The graphic designer and model and her friends were planning to see a bloodbath film that evening.

A quick survey of the movie online revealed a ridiculous plot, lethal hardware, and gallons of fake blood.

“Bad movie? This should be fun,” Pathra says.

Even with the perfectly groomed brows and layers of lip color, it seems Pathra isn’t one to give up a hilarious night with the fellas or a grueling shoot, as we would later encounter.

In the abandoned house that may or may not be filled with snakes and other shiver-inducing creatures, our trooper of a model gamely poses for the shoot.

We learn that Pathra has cemented herself as one of the usual suspects in a multiplayer online battle game called Heroes of Newerth (or HON to netizens), and can easily outplay a trash-talking male gamer or two.

In her Fred Perry plimsolls (which she got on sale at the men’s department for P1,000) and wardrobe basics, Pathra comes off as cool, laid-back, a portrait of tomboy chic.

“People don’t remember the basics!” reveals the artist of her secret to wardrobe conservation. “It’s also incredibly handy for VTRs since they want a clean canvas.”

Before Pathra became a model citizen (and perhaps, even before her older sister Ornusa learned the ropes herself) she had a collection of Disney movies. “I had a whole VHS collection and I would watch one video nearly every day while I would draw or play around with my coloring books,” she recalls.

Soon Pathra’s artistic skills developed.

She entered De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and earned a bachelor’s degree in Animation, finishing cum laude.

“Animation allowed my drawings to come to life and it reminded me of my childhood Disney days,” she recounts.

These days, Pathra employs one philosophy for both fields: Less is more.

Whether it’s an intricately illustrated logo or a photo shoot, the anthem runs deep with the creative’s work.

She may be a member of the millennium’s slasher folk (model-graphic designer or the industry trifecta host-model-blogger), but as long as she applies a certain philosophy to both disciplines and works on the storied balance of things, she’s good.
