Known for the genuine care she has for animals, Carla Abellana recently helped an abandoned dog named Skye.
Abellana was recognized by animal shelter Bohol Animal Rescue and Kindness (BARK) yesterday, Dec. 20, for her sponsoring efforts. She posted its statement on her Instagram account and wrote, “Sponsor a dog or two too!”
“Five days before Christmas and our little SKYE found a sponsor. None other than the lovely Ms. Carla Abellana,” the post said.
Skye was found abandoned near a cemetery “small, alone, with mange and skin allergies.”
“She was playing and was oblivious to the danger she was in. Her life was threatened by those who did not want a homeless pup wandering around the area,” the organization said.
When Skye arrived in the shelter she got very sick because of internal parasites. Thankfully, with the help of the shelter, she has begun to recover.
One thing is clear, though. Skye is a bundle of joy as she “brings gladness and charm whenever she is around.”
“She likes to pose and smile for photo shoots. We think she likes to be a dog model someday,” the shelter remarked.
The group is grateful to Abellana for sending her love to Skye and the other rescues. “It is indeed a beautiful Christmas for Skye. She is one happy pup,” the post said.
Sponsorship costs P7,000 annually and helps the non-profit provide “food for the rescues in the shelter, the impounded dogs, and community (homeless) dogs/cats under our TNVRM (trap, neuter, vaccinate, return/rescue and manage) project areas.”
Abellana advocates adopting dogs rather than buying them to help address pet homelessness. Just last November, she mourned the loss of her dog Wing whom she adopted in March from the Philippine Animal Welfare Society. NVG
