Broadcaster and TV host Korina Sanchez is hands-on when it comes to making dining arrangements every New Year in the hopes of bringing luck into her life.

Sanchez gave her fans a glimpse of how she prepares the dining table for New Year as can be seen in her Instagram post today, Jan. 3.

“My New Year centerpiece arrangement is of both a hangover from Christmas and a welcome to 2021,” she stated. “Everything stays until Chinese New Year in February.”

“The arrangement is made of pine and fresh cypress leaves, a few Christmas balls lit from inside, orange and white mum sprays, round mum balls for good luck, all with kiatkiat and round mandarin oranges believed to bring in wealth,” she said.

She has another arrangement of food ready for New Year’s Eve which are considered “lucky” according to Chinese tradition: a bowl of uncooked rice, sugar, salt, chocolate coins, wine, water and 13 kinds of round sweet fruit with a pineapple.

Sanchez gave some recommended resolutions too yesterday, Jan. 2 on Instagram: “Pause. Have a drink. Bask in the sunlight. Smell the flowers. Love and be loved. Know it is all good and can get better.”

Like many Filipinos, Sanchez faced loss in 2020, one of which was in the form of “Rated K” which had to go off-air because of the ABS-CBN shutdown. However, the TV host was able to find another network in the form of TV5, where her magazine show is now named “Rated Korina.” NVG
