This week’s roundup includes fast snacks, truffle roast chicken and ice cream that tastes like the summer days of your childhood.
Chicken skin
When I was a kid, one of my biggest dreams in life was to get stuck inside a mall after it closed so I could sneak into KFC and eat all the chicken skin.
I’m old now and while my dreams have changed, every now and then, I still get a hankering for fried chicken skin. And the last time I did, I turned to Crunchy Bucket, which I stumbled upon on Facebook. It sells freshly cooked chicken skin by the bucket (there are three sizes) in different flavors—salted egg, garlic Parmesan, barbecue, sour cream and spicy. My favorite is still the classic, though. Super crunchy, super satisfying. You can eat it as a snack but I won’t judge you if you enjoy it with rice. (facebook.com/crunchybucketph)
Yakult-inspired ice cream
Merry Moo is celebrating its 11th birthday this month and it’s kicked off things with a new flavor, one that’s inspired by Yakult.
Merry Moo describes their Milky Yogurt ice cream as “creamy milky base blended with a little kick of tanginess.” It’s spoonful after spoonful of nostalgia—it takes us back to childhood summer days of waiting for the Yakult lady, tearing off that foil lid and chugging down that sweet and tart goodness. Mosaic sushi box
Polaris Fine Foods’ mosaic sushi box is a feast for both your eyes and your palate. The colorful quilt of fresh ingredients (from tuna and salmon to uni and eel) which sits on a bed of rice is a joy to behold and even more delightful to eat. It would make the perfect gift for any sushi lover. (tel. 0908-8123461, 0919-0751180 on Viber; @polarisfinefoods on Instagram)
Love Bites
Love Bites serves cream cheese bread—soft buns stuffed with cream cheese and topped with sweet and savory ingredients. Variants include garlic, cinnamon, snow milky, Oreo, Alcapone, spicy pork tapa and our favorite, pork floss. They’re great for merienda. (@lovebites.est2020 on Instagram)
Truffle roast chicken
Truffle fans need to try Kenny Rogers’ new offering: truffle roast with buttermilk sauce. The chicken is marinated in a mixture of truffle and buttermilk extracts before being roasted. Truffle oil is added to the chicken before it is wrapped in gold foil, making it ready for the taking. Don’t forget to enjoy it with the new spinach mashed potato as well. Korean corndogs
Need snacks to go with that K-drama? Café Constancia serves Korean corndogs. There’s the classic one, which hides a jumbo sausage, classic cheddar (combination of sausage and cheddar cheese), potato mozzarella (half-sausage and half mozzarella coated with crispy potato), cheesy squid (squid-ink flavored coating with half sausage and mozzarella cheese), potato double cheese (potato coated full mozzarella topped with torched cheddar cheese), jalapeño melt (full mozzarella with slices of spicy jalapeño pepper) and truffle cheese melt (truffle-flavored coating with slices of black truffle and melted mozzarella).
Prices range from P69 to P135. Dipping sauces are available, too—tomato ketchup, honey mustard, garlic mayo and cheddar cheese dip. (@cafeconstanciaph on Instagram) INQ
