Sunshine Place continues to bring sunshine, hope and inspiration to its members, especially those homebound, with its dance, mindful movement and fitness classes online via Zoom as well as therapy management and workshops which all help to achieve an active and healthy lifestyle.
While most of the students are seniors, students of all ages are also welcome.
There are special dance classes like chair dancing by Danny Vinculado, which gives opportunities for “super seniors”—the elderly in wheelchairs, walkers, with hip and lower leg injury or those who underwent medical procedures—to energize and be delighted.
Dekada, under Mark Soler “Heat” Cruz, former member of Manoeuvres and Hotlegs, features popular dance crazes and steps of yesterday and today.
Jose Antonio Anonas leads the Mindful Movement way in tai chi yang style (24 movements) for beginners to find serenity and inner peace. He also offers healing qigong classes, seated for those with limited mobility and also active standing flow.
Other classes include senior yoga with instructor Rina Nakayama. A gentle practice of modern yoga poses and sequences using the chair as foundation and support, it is well adapted for seniors looking to increase mobility and flexibility without much load or strain on the body.
With health and physical fitness a major concern for seniors, Sunshine Place also offers a Senior Fitness Training program exclusively for members and students. The program consists of 30-minute workout sessions ranging from cardio, balance, strengthening and stretching exercises.
