The Artist Training Division of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is accepting applications for the 7th National Rondalla Workshop happening via Zoom from July 19 to July 23, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. This is the second year the workshop will be held online.
The workshop trainers will be led by professor Elaine Juliet Espejo of Celso Espejo Rondalla and the University of the Philippines (UP) Rondalla, and faculty member of the UP College of Music.
After the synchronous sessions, participants will record and submit performances of songs assigned by the trainors to be showcased during the Virtual Culminating Program streaming on Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. via the CCP Facebook page.
Started in 2014, the CCP National Rondalla Workshop aims to reach the young musicians’ full potential as rondalla performers. The workshop has been gaining prominence as a workshop known for training top prizewinners and finalists of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists, both in ensemble and solo bandurria categories.
For this year, the workshop is open to: 1. Any individual rondalla conductors and/or instrumentalists who are nonbeginners; 2. Any Filipino rondalla groups who: a. Have all the rondalla instruments (bandurria, octavina/laud, guitar and bass); b. Have been in existence for at least two years; and c. Are nonbeginners. All participants will be required to have their own rondalla instruments for the workshop.
Interested applicants must submit the following: 1. Duly accomplished application form; 2. An audio-video recording of a recent performance (from 2019 to the present) of at least two pieces by the group/individual.
Acceptance to the workshop will be based on the merit of the application. Participating groups will be given the opportunity to render a short performance during the online opening program.
The workshop fee for individual conductors/instrumentalists and for rondalla groups with a conductor is P2,000 per participant slot. The fee is inclusive of online materials and newly arranged rondalla pieces. Upon notice of acceptance, each rondalla group must pay a reservation fee of P5,000 that will be deducted from the full amount of the registration fee. Reservation fees are not required from individual conductors/instrumentalists, but registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Deadline for the submission of application of participants is on June 17 or until slots are filled. Accepted Rondalla Group participants must pay the reservation fee by June 29. Accepted Individual and Rondalla Group participants must pay the workshop by July 13.
