We called it last year with our #InstagramHusband series featuring Jericho Rosales, RG Gabunada, Victor Consunji, Joni Koro, and Thomas Caja that there isn’t enough credit given to the men behind those like-worthy photos. This is why we are all for the Boyfriends of Instagram account that has caught the attention of different publications around the world.

Right now, it’s a small collection of photos showing boyfriends taking the #candid moments of their partners and the weird, uncomfortable positions they assume to get the photo. Humorous but real, it also gives us some pointers to share to our own #InstagramBoyfriends-in- training.

It also reminds us that as much as Kanye West is a record producer, rapper, fashion designer, and all-around mogul, he’s also the original #InstagramHusband.

Cosmopolitan called it out as a sexist account as it made fun of women and their #feedgoals. The National Review retorted that it’s plain fun. “I’ve seen so many dudes at rooftop bars in New York City get stuck taking countless pictures of their girlfriends and their girlfriends’ friends making kissy faces and popping their butts out against the skyline—and do you know what? It is very funny to watch,” the article defends. Saying it’s funny doesn’t mean that it should be stopped or something is wrong with it. In fact, finding amusement in how couples work as a team to get a photo perfect kinda tugs at our cheesy hearts. (Shh! We didn’t say that out loud.)
To say it’s sexist isn’t also true because we are giving citation to the men who make the photos possible. That’s called equal opportunity!
Long live the #InstagramBoyfriend! God bless the #InstagramHusband!
