5 Local Bag Brands that Made Their Way Abroad | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Filipino-made bags are breaking out in the international market. Thanks to social media, local bag designers are reaching more people across the globe, and getting recognized abroad. It’s not just their designs that catch their eye, but also the materials used. Pineapple fiber and abaca aren’t commonly found overseas, hence, the fascination on items made from these fabrics.

That said, we direct the spotlight on local bag brands which are already found at well-known retailers from US to UAE. Most were already featured in major publications which gives them more visibility to foreign customers.

They’ve also been featured in Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue. Oh, and Queen Mathilde of Belgium was also spotted carrying their Ginto minaudiere.

You can’t miss Ken Samudio’s distinct design which is mostly inspired by ocean life. His colorful clutches and rope-like backpacks were recognized at the YOOX Net-a-Porter YES Awards in 2015. Likewise, his clutch also got him a spot as Vogue Italia‘s accessories talents in 2014. You can find his creations at Harvey Nichols in Dubai and Hong Kong, as well as in Adorn USA.

You know you’ve made it when Oprah Winfrey tags your bag as a favorite. Beatriz’s Tropical Edge clutch got that honor when she was included in Oprah’s Favorite Things last Christmas. But before all this, Beatriz is already selling in countries like the MoMA Store in New York, Kika Style, Inc. in Tokyo, and Unica Concept Store in Corso.
