Just like traditional sports, esports has big names who inspire amateur gamers and entertain fans worldwide. If you’re just getting into esports and haven’t decided where to start, you can check out different genres and see what playing style would suit you.

League of Legends (LoL) is arguably one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena games worldwide, with the League of Legends World Championships (Worlds) as one of the biggest annual professional gaming tournaments in esports. You can join in on the fun of esports by testing the waters yourself or even just by watching live game plays. Here’s a list of the pros and streamers in the world of LoL whom you can learn a few tips and tricks from.

Faker

Born and raised in South Korea, Lee Sang-Hyeok, better known as Faker, is known as the GOAT of the LoL world. Since 2011, Faker has been honing his skills at LoL and started bagging championships with SK Telecom T1 in 2013 from different LoL tournaments including the Worlds.

He’s deemed as the best mid-laner in the world after his performance at the Olympus Champions Spring 2013. At 23 years old, Faker has been dominating the LoL world rankings with his highly regarded play with Leblanc, a mage and an assassin.

Tyler1

Whether you like him or hate him, Tyler Steinkamp or Tyler1 is one of the most popular streamers of LoL with over three million followers on Twitch. Known for his toxic and aggressive behavior on screen, Tyler1 was once banned from LoL in April 2016. Despite this, the 25-year-old is also skilled at LoL as a bot laner with Draven, an axe-wielding marksman. He actually became the 13th-ranked solo queue player in North America in the Challenger Tier, an exclusive rank for the top 200 accounts per geographical area.

FunPlus Phoenix (FPX)

After only being formed in 2018, Chinese team FunPlus Phoenix has been turning heads after defeating the European group G2 Esports in Worlds 2019, winning $2.5 million in prize money and a 70-pound trophy with a Louis Vuitton-designed case. This team is one to watch, especially with Kim Tae-sang or Doinb, whose distinct playing style can help win every match. The 23-year-old South Korean in the FPX LoL team is known for playing as a mid-laner with Kled, a fighter and a tank.
